Field Interviewers
Field Interviewers (Job Code WW/MPS/7941) We are currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to collect medical expenditure data year-round for an important study being conducted for the Public Health Service. Data will be collected in households across the U.S. Interviewers will drive to preselected households in their areas, and will use a Westat-owned laptop to conduct in-person interviews. Candidates must be available to work 20-24 hours per week, evenings, weekends, and some weekdays as needed. Other requirements include having an insured car and a valid driver’s license and the willingness to work in designated areas. Qualifications include having effective communication, persuasive, and organizational skills, and attention to detail. Laptop keyboarding skills are a plus. An out-of-town mandatory training will be held in early February 2008. This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position with no benefits; pay rate is based on area of residency and relevant experience. Interviewers (Job Code: WW/NL7/7942) We are currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to collect data for an important study conducted for the National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of Education. The study will be conducted in focus group facilities in eleven locations nationwide: New York, NY; Baltimore, MD; Bethesda, MD; Atlanta, GA; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; Iowa City, IA; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; Los Angeles, CA; and, Fresno, CA. Interviewers in these areas will travel to a local focus group facility to conduct prescheduled interviews with respondents who have been recruited by the focus group service. Interviewers will conduct interviews and use a laptop computer, provided by Westat, to record and transmit data (CAPI), as well as distribute hard-copy exercise booklets for completion by the respondent. Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 3 to 4 days per week for 6 to 8 hours per day, or about 20 to 25 hours per week. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular local travel to and from the facility. Candidates are required to attend a paid, out-of town, in-person training session in Rockville, MD from Saturday, December 1 through Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Candidates must be available to complete a home study packet prior to in-person training. A college degree is preferred. Previous experience with public contact (e.g., customer service, etc.) is required. Keyboarding skills and previous interviewing experience are a plus. Work will begin immediately after training, on December 10, 2007, and is expected to continue through March 2008. This is a part-time non-exempt position with limited benefits. Medical Record Abstractors (Job Code WW/DWN/7901) Westat is seeking individuals to gather and report data for a long-term national public health surveillance system that monitors trends in drug-related emergency department visits. Prior experience with medical records and/or medical terminology is required. Familiarity with computers including using multiple computer applications is necessary. Study Manager (Job Code: WW/NH4/7939) We are currently seeking a motivated individual with a minimum of 10 years of management experience for the overall responsibility of activities at a field site and directly supervising an office team of 4 persons and up to 18 household interviewers at any one time. This federally mandated health study is being conducted for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Center for Health Statistics. Full time continuous travel is required as counties across the United State are selected to participate in the study. Field office teams work in 5 sites a year, remaining in each site for about 9 weeks. Candidates must be available to work a minimum 40 hours per week to include evening and weekends; and have the ability to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of the position. Qualifications include supervision/management experience, strong interpersonal skills, experience working with local media and dignitaries, computer skills, work within research protocol, manage and assign case work, work in a goal oriented environment, work cooperatively and build a team; other related duties will be given as required.
